I was reading an article online about African Killer Bees and i have to say that i am pretty scared of what they can and are about to do. African Killer Bees originate from southern Africa and were imported in 1956 when a Brazilian scientist tried to colonize them with European honey bees. They escaped the quarantine in 1957 and have been colonizing central and southern America ever since. Even reports have shown that California, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona have reported AKB deaths and attacks.
Their venom in not any more hurtful then a regular honey bee, but they do tend to attack in much more larger units. When they first started to attack, people just thought that it was because people were "invading" their territory, but more studies have shown that they can even attack when they hear noises and vibrations. They usually colonize in places like hollow trees, porches, walls, sheds, utility boxes, attics, garbage containers and abondened vehicles.
I think that there could be a way for us to minimize this problem, especially if they are planning to move to north America soon. I think there should be scientists that could be well prepared to take on these vicious creatures and eventually exterminate them. I don't know about you, but i could live without bees. I could live without honey if that meant that bees would be exinct as well. We are coming up wit enough technology so that in a few years we will not need bees to get the honey for us.

You have got to be kidding me!
Bees play a huge role in pollinization. Without bees you wouldn't have most of the fruits we so often enjoy. Apples, peaches, tomatoes, soybeans, pumpkins, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries etc. Currently populations of native pollinations are crashing as well as populations of European honey bees, our chief pollinators. If these problems continue we might actually need killer bees. Killer bees are actually great pollinators, better than European honey bees. Certainly the answer would not be to exterminate them, but to somehow harness their abilities to secure our own food supply. Clearly they can be a dangerous insect, but that doesn't mean they should be eradicated. Americans should be finding ways to encourage populations of native pollinators.

I completely agree with morkekski. If we can somehow utilize killer bees in our own agricultural endeavors this could completely over see the scare we have at hand. Do you know if killer bees pollinate as well as honey bees or at all? There is a possibility that they have no pollination capabilities and in that case all bees would probably be used for Mr. Burns' dog that shoot bees out of their mouths.

Ever since I saw My Girl I have been terified of bees. I am also allergic, so they scare me a lot. I have seen so many documentaries on AKBs and they are a very deadly and they are going to become a serious issue. I agree with bees being important, hoever killer bees are not and happened by accident, so in this case I could do without bees!
